Between November 20 and December 01 of 2023, in the municipality of Veríssimo, and November 27 and December 08 of 2023, in the municipality of Araçuaí, teams from the Cartography Coordination of the Geosciences Directorate (CCAR), and of the Department of Geodesy and Cartography of the State Superintendences of Bahia (GGC-BA), the Federal District (GGC-DF) and Goiás (GGC-GO), carried out Geospatial Data Quality Control and Geographic Names Collection activities, in accordance with international precepts. Such activities are linked to the concept of “reambulation”, arising from one of the cartographic production processes, which consists of surveying, in the field, the denomination and classification of natural and artificial features that make up the Territory (Geosciences Technical Manual, number 15, Geographic Names Collection, - Manual Técnico de Geociências, número 15, Coleta de Nomes Geográficos - 2023). The dynamics was supported by the QGIS and QField applications, with a personalized data collection form for the campaigns.

In this activity, Mobile Collection Devices (DMC) provided by the DTI (Directorate of Information Technology) were tested – specifically the Multilaser Tablet – with the Microsoft Intune management system. Due to the Tablet's performance limitations, the team used the minimum necessary configurations of mobile devices to make field activities more efficient for future campaigns. It was also necessary to use the servants' personal smartphones to complete the task.

In addition to adjusting the aforementioned methodologies, there was training for the team of all GGCs and CCAR staff involved in the campaigns. Reambulating is being present in the territory, whether for the quality control of our products, or for the collection of geographical names, to portray the population characteristics and dynamics in space and time.

This year, three joint reammbulation campaigns were carried out in Minas Gerais, integrating teams from Quality Control and Geographical Names, with those in Veríssimo and Araçuaí taking place simultaneously, involving CCAR and three GGCs (Goiás, Federal District and Bahia) . These “pilot campaigns” were essential in consolidating the methodology and training teams from different units in the field.

For next year, systematization is expected for these Geospatial Data Quality Control and Geographic Names Collection activities into the IBGE Annual Work Plan, with campaigns carried out by the institution's technical field teams.
