This publication has the objective of bringing into view the concept of governance, which is approached in several spheres in Brazil and abroad. The study is intended to help monitor ongoing activities and as tool to support decisions relative to this theme that has increased in prominence in the last few decades in both public and private institutions. Mechanisms that ensure the adequate  and efficient functioning of institutions, preventing immoderation and deviations before the established rules have been put into effect. It is worth highlighting the statistical production (based on surveys and registers) related to the governance in the public sector.
