The IBGE presents to society, as a complement to the release of results of the 2022 Census by age and sex, conducted on Oct 27, 2023, the results by characteristics of age and sex, considering the age group of 60 and over, as establishment in the Statute of the Elderly Person.

Disaggregated Information on the population by age and sex are fundamental for the design and monitoring of public policies such as health, education, social security and labor market. Also, they provide material for the calculation of a number of demographic indicators and allow specialists to evaluate changes in the population’s demographic profile over time.

This publication entitled Population by age and sex – Persons aged 60 and over , presents results for persons aged 60 and over for Brazil, Major Regions and Federation Units. These data refer to the universe, encompassing two types of questionnaire, the Sample and the Basic ones, used in the 2022 Population Census.
