IBGE positioning on ACO 1,831

Having known the declaration of the President of the Legislative Assembly of Piauí, representative Franzé Silva, in a legislative session on Wednesday, 17, questioning the fact that an area in dispute between the states of Piauí and Ceará appears as belonging to the state of Ceará in the 9th edition of the Geographic School Atlas produced by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and released in the beginning of the current month, the IBGE states:

The territorial borders between Piauí and Ceará are being judicially discussed through the Primary Civil Lawsuit (ACO) no. 1,831 in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), filed by the state of Piauí against the state of Ceará in 2011.

ACO 1,831 is in the probation phase without any final decision about this theme.

It should be highlighted that the IBGE is not a party in this lawsuit, though it was called to act in the conciliation procedure during the lawsuit, at the request of the STF, without any success.

Therefore, the IBGE should wait for the STF´s decision in this lawsuit, which will be fulfilled by the IBGE.
