IBGE releases on May 16 the Estimates of Under-Registration of Births and Deaths 2023


The IBGE will release, at 10 am on May 16, the Estimates of Under-Registration of Births and Deaths for 2023. These results allow estimating the coverage of vital events (births and deaths), based on statistical modeling applied after the pairing of databases from the Vital Statistics survey (IBGE) and the Mortality and Live Birth Information Systems - SIM/SINASC (Ministry of Health).

The results presented here are a continuation of the releases already made on the subject, referring to the years 2015 to 2022, which, published within the scope of the Complementary Study for the Application of the Capture-Recapture Technique, were considered experimental because they were under evaluation and had not yet reached a full degree of maturity, in terms of harmonization, coverage or methodology.

As the conditions were met, this is the first release on the subject without the Experimental Statistics seal. Thus, the results that were once considered experimental, including those disaggregated by Federation Units and Municipalities, are now unified.
