Classification of Statistical Information

About - Classification of Statistical Information 1.0

The Classification of Statistical Information (CIE) was developed by the IBGE in 2015, aiming at representing the themes either measured or demanded by organizations belonging to the National Statistical System (SEN) and based on the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA), version 2009, produced by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (Unece). That classification, CIE 2015, included the cross-cutting of the statistical knowledge produced by the IBGE and especially aimed at the thematic organization of the information displayed on its Portal, streamlining the users´ browsing.

Since then, improvements have been implemented in this classification, whose current version, CIE 1.0, is the target of this publication. Two perspectives were considered for this: the assessment of CIE 2015, aiming at checking its adherence to the national statistical production and to the most recent demands for information; and the development and adoption of the current version of the international classification of reference, CSA 2.0.

This publication describes the decisions that guided CIE 1.0 and brings, among other methodological considerations, explanatory notes that contextualize the themes and sub-themes included in the following domains: Social and population statistics, Economic statistics, Environmental statistics, Governance statistics, Transversal statistics and Methods and classifications.

This full set of information, also available on the IBGE Portal, is a governance tool of the national statistics, as it provides transparency and renders account of the public entities to the society, concerning the data provided and required.
